Superman
wow, i can't find the right words to describe the feelings i felt watching superman—but actual superhero movies are finally back.
superman is all about goodness and empathy. empathy, not for people you know and already love because that's the easiest part, but empathy for people you don't know and you don't understand. superman is and will always be an immigrant; the republicans reacting badly to this and calling superman being an immigrant being part of the "woke" agenda just shows how incredibly timely this movie is. THIS is who superman actually is.
lots of people have said that the guy luthor killed didn't make sense because "he was just a random person" and "it didn't have emotional impact"—this movie is for them! he is a random person but he made the effort to help superman when no one did, and he was ready to help him again. he may not be superman but he's still as much of a hero as he is.
UGH i have so many thoughts!
- milly alcock my girlfriend
- the genuine GOODNESS of it all
- lois lane actually having a personality and not just agreeing to everything clark is saying. she disagrees and she presses, and she's shamelessly herself. she has her own morals and her own opinions! she's not just a love interest but an actual person!
- the justice gang
- papa kent and how he lets himself be soft, and kind, and sad, and vulnerable to his son
- lex luthor being pure evil
just wow, growing up, i was never impressed with superman. i always thought of superman as godlike. he's presented as this powerful guy who, no matter how much he tries and adapts to humans, is still, at the end of the day, different. he'll always have his superpowers, he'll always be unfailingly kind to the point of being unrealistic, and he'll always be different. but that was just me being #EMO. because what bothered me was not the fact that he was godlike and he could do so many things, but the fact that he was unfailingly and wholeheartedly good.
but that goodness, i realized, isn't unrealistic. it's something real and it's something that you can do for yourself as long as you keep on trying because "good" really isn't something you aspired to be or something you are, but something you keep on trying to do. and with goodness, comes empathy.
my heart is swelling so much. and i hope people, especially men, take this movie the same way they took joker (2019).
