Sing Sing
-as himself.
And I wondered why I didnt recognize a lot of the actors in this film. No wonder. The authenticity provided through including past Rehabilitation Through the Arts members made this film for me.
Most prison based movies I've watched simply just show the flaws of, well, prison as a whole. Whether it be through the maltreatment of inmates, lack of oversight, or prejudice. And I can understand that. A prison movie meant to instill fear, and is not one to show prison as being all sunshine and rainbows. Thats what makes Sing Sing different. At its core, this movie shows that you can find joy quite literally anywhere, at any time. This movie shows that you must speak out. Dont repress your feelings. For if a caged bird can sing out its lovely tune even in confinement, why can't you?
This film seems like a mix up of Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting to me. All we are missing now is Robin William, rest in peace.
