Blue
Just saw Blue, it feels more like a living art experience then a movie, even if lots of movie are pure art experience too. But, obviously, Blue doesn't use the media that film is in a really typical way, and to precise that I want to explore some points that felt really interesing for me on that movie :
1- The Colorimetry
It can seems like a joke but it is not. That blue is not just a blue like every blue you could see like sea blue, cyan, dark blue etc. Thats the unic color of Blue, thats a deep blue that is not dark, not clear but that is not permanent. We can't stare too long at that blue without it becoming white, black, green or even grey. Because of that, Blue is a unic visual experience, that will be altered by your feelings, your perception of light, your mood etc.
2- The Time
In Blue, some seconds can feel like some years and some tens of minuts like an instant. Thats because we follow memories, ideas and thoughts distorting the idea of time. We are at that cafe with Derek Jarman at the beginning, we feel the city living, we wait with him in what he calls "Hell", we learn the possible side effects, scrolling for several minuts, of the drugs he have to take. All that are experiences, we feel that more than we listen to that, and we can't even see that. At the end, it's like some years have passed, the time of a life phase; but in reality it's just a little less then a hour and a half.
3- The Reality
"What happens" was the first thing I tought after finishing Blue. I didn't felt like watching a movie but more like feeling something deeply like listening to a voice in my head, a stranger voice but not in a bad way, more like a thought that you have and listen too; it's like being lost in your own thought but they are the experience of a stranger, sharing them to you as Death come closer and closer for him. At some moment, I really felt like the song was coming from the back of my head.
4- The Song
Blue is asking for an attention of the hearing. We hear things that we sometimes can't follow, can't understand because they don't feel like scripted, like something the voices have to say but more like the gross result of abstract ideas. Music is played and feels like an abstraction of the mind even weirder. The song is what allow Blue to be that deep.
