Saltburn
Something between a Shakespearean tragedy, a greek comedy, a poe short story and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Grotesque, sadistic, sociopathic and just all around kinda strange. Some of the sex scenes went on a bit long and bordered on fetish porn, which added to the discomfort of the film - I can’t decide whether these scenes took away from the plot or made it better. The casting was perfect: almost every character was easy to hate in their own unique way, which added to the confusion of who was really the protagonist. The filming and editing was beautiful, especially the colors/lighting and the framing - the dutch angle with the whole family (including the Minotaur) in frame looking at Felix’s dead body was such a great shot. Overall it was a very well made film with a pretty twisted plot, but if I’m being honest I’ve heard this story before and it didn’t feel terribly unique.
