The Impossible
I’m a sucker for a natural disaster movie.I did not expect to be emotionally destroyed.
a young Tom Holland gives a performance of a lifetime in my opinion. did he win any awards for this one? he definitely should have.
as someone who has unfortunately experienced the agony of watching their own mom die, he was so real in this role with every response and emotional. there were so many things Lucas said or did that I recall reacting similarly. he’s so young but the quick response to ‘lie’ to not scare or stress her further was so mature, and relatable. so much of this film was relatable to me in such a painful way. I never expected to cry the way I did when I hit ‘play.’ I full on sobbed several times.
Naomi Watts showing the resilience of mothers and women was beautiful. the way she did everything to protect her child even when she knew her situation wasn’t great and the way she was so scared to go into surgery were again two things very similar to my own experience. except in my story, mom wasn’t okay and we didn’t all get to go home.
I am absolutely amazed at how a movie about a tsunami turned out to be so much deeper. I never would’ve thought it would be such a grief filled experience for me. no regrets giving this all five stars (but I also don’t think I’ll be watching again, thank you).
