had to watch Sandler and annistons palpable chemistry just to feel something

honestly don’t really know where to begin. last summer a hostel I was at had this book on the free shelf so I grabbed it on a whim (it was one of 2 books left that were in English) and I finished it in 48 hours (and this was before I even really knew about this movie coming out). I was completely blown away by this adaption, and the reliance on practical effects were a big part of it for me. Having rocky as a puppet (obv aided by cgi but you know what I mean) gave the chance for the relationship between him and grace to feel so grounded and real, and deciding on having James Ortiz voice rocky and not just be the puppeteer was incredible. the score and soundtrack were superb and set design remarkable. I feel like every day (especially in the states—and with me working full time in politics and just film stuff for fun and freelance) can feel so draining and hopeless much like the set up to this. And Ryland being so full of fear despite his brilliance is so real, and watching his selfishness (lack of better word tbh) out of this fear is something that I think we all are too afraid to admit we relate to. But watching rylands growth, because others believed in him even when he didn’t believe in himself is also a reminder that it takes a village, and a team, to do anything and everything in life and you’re never truly alone. You always have people in your corner. But loved that little bonus at the end, had me crying (for like the 10th time) I hope that this does not get overshadowed next awards season because of the spring release, but for now, it’s my favorite of the year (but also don’t worry guys we all know that *Digger* will probs come out on top). Also, Ryan looked so hot in this movie with his slutty little glasses I might have to decide to give adult men who are blonde rights again. Also also, I’m so fucking pissed I was not in nyc (I literally had tickets to the premier) because the premier looked so incredible and I’m so jealous.

Sandgren and Fennell truly made a GORGEOUS film but my god I hated everything else. initially when I heard fennell was doing this adaption I was THRILLED because I knew it would be absolutely beautiful, but then the casting came out and I was already pissed the fuck off. Margot, who is obviously absolutely gorgeous is 35, and looks 35, WHICH ISNT A BAD THING BUT IS BAD FOR CASTING. and Jacob, incredibly talented and hot, IS A WHITE MAN!!!! it fully takes you out of the story. Fennell should have just made her own story, titled it something else and said on the side inspired by Wuthering Heights à la *Shes the Man *or *Anyone But You *and everything probably would’ve been great. I know they just added casting to the Oscar’s this year, but can we give this a razzy for worst casting???

practical effects and the tooth fairy from The Santa Clause trilogy??? automatically 4 stars. (first tvs of terror ☑️)
