-This movie is so insanely good like I was lowk expecting smth to happen that would ruin the film cause it had me hooked from start to end and was practically perfect
-When I tell you I was TERRIFIED for gwenyth Paltrow the entire film. Even tho I kind of saw that part of the ending coming I was still devastated and literally freeman, pitt and spaceys performance was amazing especially in that scene.
-the concept was actually brilliant and left me in awe. Just even when John Doe was explaining his crimes, trying to justify himself he was lowk convincing. The way he wanted to create a piece of art through his crimes that reminded whoever saw or heard about them that all of us are sinful was honestly beautiful and I feel like his actions aren’t justifiable but he also wanted to use his victims as a wider metaphor of society and the commonness of sin.
-I also liked how he was self aware of his own capacity for sin and made himself the example of envy cause it showed how he wasn’t just resentful of others but also himself
- his dynamic with mills and Somerset was so entertaining especially how his calm demeanor contrasted mill’s arrogance and confidence but he also still was jealous of him for his ability to have a normal life. I loved how he didn’t rlly interact with Somerset cause I feel like he was scared of him and knew that he didn’t have the power in their relationship. The way he toyed with Mill’s was so interesting and it was lowk giving Hannibal Lecter vibes
- for a second I was scared Somerset would die from the delivery truck or smth but I’m glad he didn’t cause him being unable to convince mills not to kill doe rlly showed how doe had all of the control over them and that it was inevitable that mills would finish his plan for him
- I do feel like it was a bit cliche how doe said that god told him to carry out his plan and to become a martyr and it was the only part of his justification that I thought was a bit lazy
- the twist that acc SHOCKED me was that Mills was the sin of wrath and I just thought that him succumbing to his rage and killing doe rlly showed how calculated doe was and how dedicated he was to completing his plan that he would sacrifice himself.
I loved how the film ended with Mills being taken away in a police car because it showed how does masterpiece was complete. Also it showed how sin can take over a person forcing them to disregard their duty.
-Tbf that’s only the last 20 minutes if the movies which is obviously the iconic bit but I genuinely enjoyed all of it.
- gluttony was acc such a horrifying sin to watch especially cause it was the very first one and i feel like it rlly hooked me into the movie. I do feel a bit bad for the victim but also not because he did bring a lot of his agony on himself but I thought it was sad how doe forced him to eat and also cut pieces off of himself
- greed was one of my lease favourites cause i just thought that it was brushed over rlly quickly and other then the finger prints I don’t think that it was very memorable
- sloth lowk might’ve been my favourite one just how the victim was still alive it acc made me jump so bad like he literally looked like a ghost with like whitened eyes and then he just suddenly woke up. I feel like he would have suffered the most especially cause he was literally left to deteriorate for a whole year while he was strapped to a bed. But it just shows how sickening doe’s mind was and how heavily he wanted his examples to suffer
- lust was rlly upsetting especially cause he physically hurt one victim while emotionally hurting the other. I’m glad we weren’t shown all the graphic details of the sins especially this one cause I feel like that would have been so gory and I felt it was best left to the imagination
- pride was probs the worst one mainly because it was very rushed and was only like a minute long scene
- I acc got chills in the next scene when doe walked into the police station covered in blood and confessed cause that just shows how much power he had in those situations.
- I thought Brad Pitt was a rlly good character but I just think Morgan freemans performance was perfect and I wish he did more. I loved how him and mills didn’t have any deep conversations but it was clear that they were growing closer because of the case. I rlly liked how he was more humanised throughout the film like when he was invited to dinner and he told Tracy his first name and was laughing about the subway with them I just feel like that’s when he started to care abt mills and Tracy.
-I honestly can’t explain why I haven’t given this movie a 10/10 cause i honestly don’t know if I can find smth wrong with it but somethings just telling me that it’s a 9/10. But I could see it being a 10/10 in the future if or when I rewatch
