Squid Game
BIG SPOILERS
The twist in the final episode really did not work for me. It didn’t add much to already well done themes, and the plot could’ve easily been moved forward with a different scene like Gi-Hun going on the subway and seeing someone audition to play the game (like happens later). The main thing it does is shock, but I don’t see why this is particularly valuable given that it completely undercuts the emotional resonance of a lot of Episode 6, and other moments with Il-Nam. Also, on the topic of shock value, it was weird that Il-Nam just signed the card; it would’ve been much more surprising if the reveal came from us seeing him turn around in the bed and not just reading it in a note.
Overall a great series, but a mediocre finale (in comparison to Squid Game’s many highs), and I’m just going to essentially retcon the big twist out of my head
