The Penguin

I love how this franchise makes Batman’s characters more realistic. Batman: Emo Riddler: Incel Penguin: Oedipus Complex I can’t wait for them to make Joker a discord mod. I love how this show expands on the lore and world building of The Batman, this is by far one of my favourite versions of Gotham. I am also really glad that they didn’t make Oz a likable/redeemable anti-hero type character like so many projects about villains have been doing recently, and instead only double down on how putrid he is as the series goes on, making him more and more hateable. I often found myself rooting for Sofia over Oz, you’d think she would be the sympathetic protagonist with her tragic and sympathetic backstory, you can’t help but want her to win despite Oz being our protagonist. Victor also serves as an audience surrogate, the young protege to Oz who deserves so much better than what he got throughout this series, he went to hell and back for Oz only to have it spat back in his face, only making the Penguin more detestable as a result. It’s a tragic story where the worst possible person gets everything they ever wanted and everyone else suffers in the process. Ultimately, The Penguin has been the perfect bridge between part 1 and 2 of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe and I can’t wait to see what’s next. Speaking of Batman HE BETTER HAVE A DAMN GOOD EXCUSE FOR WHY HE DIDN’T SHOW UP DURING ANY OF THIS.
