Bit underwhelming given the success of this film, the first 90 minutes just felt slow and very passive. The last half hour is where it picks up immensely, but too little too late in my opinion. Sean Penn's performance was definitely solid, but in comparison to the 2004 nominees, I'm surprised he won. Tim Robbins was the standout for me personally. An okay film at best, might go up if I ever decide to rewatch it.

I don't think Timothee Chalamet has a single bad performance, this might be my favourite of his so far, but I'm fully expecting Dune Part Three to clear this arguably flawless performance

The first three quarters of this film is amazing, so fun and vibrant, full of action, adventure, and so much colour. The quality of the narrative takes a significant dip at the end through the choice between the old lady and evil man, in a way it makes sense but given the direction and highlighted narrative elements throughout the film like Sosuke's parents, Ponyo's parents, polluted oceans driving the antagonist's hatred towards humans. It feels like it could have culminated in a more dramatic and fitting ending.
