Hamnet
This movie wrecked me I mean there is so much to admire all around. It’s a truly great, crushing piece of cinema. Jessie Buckley delivered a performance of a lifetime, portraying grief incredibly raw and devastating. Of course, Paul Mescal and children’s actors were no less remarkable. Max Richter’s score perfectly complements the story.
What stood out to me was the way grief is portrayed as isolating - it pushes Will and Agnes apart, both emotionally and physically, as they mourn. Yet in the final moments, when the camera lingers on Hamnet, we see that even in separation, grief and art can connect us in ways that are hauntingly beautiful. Immortalization through art.
A gut punch of a film, profoundly human and poignant.
