Barry Lyndon
this movie has intimidated me for years, and even tho it took me a few nights to get through it when i finally gave it a real effort, there really isn't anything to critique here at all. everything is masterfully done and, for a three hour epic, the pacing and drama keep you interested the entire time.
barry is both likeable and detestable at the same time. how the movie gets you to root for and against him back and forth throughout is an impressive achievement.
so much of this movie feels like a template or inspiration for tarantino and other modern filmmakers. it's like an 18th century 'catch me if you can'.
also yeah it looks absolutely beautiful.
