Obsession
Absolutely incredible. This movie nailed the uncomfortable, skin-crawling atmosphere so perfectly that I’m still feeling unsettled. It strips away standard jump scares and instead forces you to sit with pure, prolonged anxiety as the spell takes over. An instant horror classic that completely dismantles a creepy guy's desperate fantasy of forcing someone to love him.
Didn't take long at all to realize Bear is actually insufferable. Watching him is pure agony.
Inde Navarrette was absolutely outstanding, and her performance is what really sells the horror of this movie. The scenes where she just smiles and stays like that for an uncomfortable amount of time are deeply disturbing. It feels completely unnatural and forced, letting you see the spell trapping her underneath it. Watching her identity get stripped away bit by bit while she's forced to look "happy" is the most skin-crawling part of the entire film.
The sound design deserves a shoutout. The silence during those long, forced smiles made the theatre feel so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
The ending is what ensures the movie stays with you. Rolling the credits right as she gains consciousness is brutal, but knowing she is on the other side of the screen crying and breaking down while the text plays out is devastating. It denies you a neat resolution and forces you to sit with the sudden reality of her trauma. An instant horror classic.
