Val
“If you believe in something enough, it becomes real”.
I can't say I'm a die-hard Val Kilmer fan, but he was certainly someone I admired and even more so after this documentary. There were so many things we didn't know about Val, including the fact that he documented his entire life on video, his imprint at Juilliard and what a great human being he was, although the latter was not something we didn't know, but what Hollywood insisted on not telling us.
Getting to know Val through a more intimate lens, through the home video tapes he kept from his childhood was touching and inspiring, it's beautiful to see how he loved his career so much, how he was truly passionate about art, about doing things right. Val was undoubtedly a great actor, with great talent and dedication in each of his characters, he did it for the love of art, and it shows, it is totally admirable and motivating to see people like that, no doubt he was a man like no other, but he leaves a great legacy behind him.
Throughout this documentary I found myself laughing, crying and laughing and crying again, as I mentioned it is beautiful to see a person be so passionate about what they do, and to see that Val still maintained that essence that characterises him so much, it was captivating to watch.
There are so many scenes that I loved in this documentary, I want to emphasise the montage of him telling the story of his interpretation of Mark Twain, with videos of him and the song of Knocking on heaven's door in the background, for me that was cinema, as well as the compilation of his roles and him dancing with the lights, sorry I can't stop saying it, but it was beautiful to behold.
I wish my writing skills were as good as the acting quality that Val Kilmer had, then, I could honor him in the best way, no doubt losing an actor like him this year was shocking news. Val, no one will ever be able to match you, you were and always will be one of the greatest actors that Hollywood has given us, and although that industry turned its back on you, you will always be remembered.
Thank you so much Val Kilmer, for giving your all to achieve the best performances you could, you were and always will be one of the greats.
