Normally I shitpost on this app but this film is so good it warrants a serious review.
As someone who has battled depression for almost half of my life this movie is one of the most horrifyingly accurate depictions of it I have ever seen for those who are lucky enough not to know what it feels like to be depressed imagine everyone around you singing your praises and being kind to you then later you sink into the darkest depths the negatives highly outweigh the positives and you can’t see the light in your self while on the contrary everyone around you tells you how great of a person you are or what you mean to this world something often repeated by my own father is “I wish you could see yourself how others see you”
Calum also perfectly sums up what it is like being a father you go from being the star in your own movie to a supporting role in someone else’s which is apparent as he obviously experiences all this pain but goes out of his way to make sure Sophie has a good holiday and their relationship and interactions show how much he truly means to Sophie
Simply put it this movie is a masterpiece it beautifully sums up something often hard for those who don’t go through it to understand. Its interpretation and take on fatherhood beautifully coincides with Calum’s battle with depression.
To learn more about yourself and the he way others see the world watch this movie it’s not long something that can be watched in an afternoon but will have you thinking for a long time and based on my post-viewing feelings this movie won’t be leaving me for a long time
Now I need to give my dad a hug
