Raw
I felt scared during every single second of the movie. After it ended I researched and thought about what it was trying to tell us. It is a film that describes the process of growing up and the expectations of society. Sexuality is usually expected to be something aesthetic and soft. However the movie portrays sexuality as hunger like cannibalism. It is not delicate as society expects, it is wild. Society will find Justine wild but there are also inhumane behaviors among the students at the school. When the students eat raw meat together or join in other activities this wildness is normalized because it is what expects. They see themselves as superior to animals yet they act completely according to their own animal instincts. It shows how wild we can be under the mask of the civilized human being that is expected of us. The school represents society and the main character represents the person who doesn't fit into this society. The question is what is the difference between humans and animals?
