Certified hood classic

Kevin Spacey is just not good in this. Benicio Del Toro and Giancarlo Esposito probably had the best performances (I swear I’m not biased because I love them), but had minor roles. Okay plot and twist, but felt like a drag to get there. Camera work and cinematography nothing special. The line-up scene is hilarious though, and somehow the highlight of the whole thing. Decent flick.

“I’m the Pappie!”

Starts off great (and the movie is built on a great promise) but consistently loses steam every consecutive scene. My biggest movie pet peeve is when the plot hinges on decision making that is not feasible in any possible world, and this movie would’ve been over immediately if Bear was not bound by the plot to keep making insane decisions. The moment I finally figured out the movie was horribly written was after Nikki kills Sarah and then Bear continues to just be complacent, not call the police, and even assist Nikki in burying the body etc. Another scene that makes it glaringly obvious that this movie was written sloppily was the final scene: when Ian walks in he tells bear something like “hey I got a billion dollars it really worked!” which is problematic because Bear was with Ian when he made the wish and the billions came pouring down in front of them (which looked terrible by the way), and Sarah’s body (which they were supposed to have taken care of earlier) was seen in a chair in another room. Another was when Bear opens Sarah’s acceptance letter after she had been brutally (and very unrealistically) murdered, as if the fact she got into the college made her death worse somehow. And Bear’s scream in that car was really bad. The best thing about the movie was the creepy movement of Nikki, but beyond that there wasn’t anything very positive about the film besides maybe general performances by the actors. Horribly written, will not see again.
