now i can finally cross "see travis scott on an imax screen" off my bucket list, as chris nolan intended Even though Charlize Theron looked like she had walked straight out of a perfume ad, the lack of Greek representation was disappointing, and having the Greek dialogue translated for Odysseus and his men (even after seeing an explanation of the symbolism behind that choice, the scene still didn’t sit right with me) I absolutely loved the movie. The cinematography was astonishing, loved that they filmed mostly on location because you could 100% feel the Mediterranean vibe, Matt Damon delivered an excellent performance as Odysseus, and I especially loved how the film explored the irreversible cost of war and the way it reshapes one’s identity, suggesting that the greatest journey isn’t simply finding your way back to Ithaca, but finding your way back to yourself and your true values. The symbolism of the lotus flower beautifully reinforces that idea, leaving those who surrender to it lost both literally at sea and figuratively in their own identity. Btw Ludwig come get your Oscar.
