“smile! zain, smile! this is for your id card, not for your death certificate.” movies dont make me cry, by the end of this one i was bawling my eyes out. im half lebanese, but i didnt grow up there and havent been since i was like seven years old. that country needs significant help. this movie makes me grateful that i grew up comfortably, in a safe home, with nice parents that didnt have to marry me off to some pedophile when i was eleven just to make ends meet. this movie is raw. from the beginning scene with the kids playing and smoking to the very end with zain smiling. i just want to hug zain forever and keep him safe. this is the kind of film i want to see.
