La La Land
“I will always love you, too” and then names his jazz club after her suggestion and plays the song they first danced to..
I’m a simple guy, give me jazz and I will most likely love it.And this movie genuinely just killed me.
The whole movie was such a rollercoaster of please just talk to each other properly. You can see it in my liked reviews but I felt as if Mia had always been just a bit too worried about the fact that if she sacrificed even one bit, even one rehearsal outside of the theater but with her boyfriend, that everything will go to shit.
Sebastian on the other hand was open to sacrifice some of his life and dream just to stay with Mia and support her(eg. skipping his car to spend the night finding hers, joining a band with the guy he did not like to have a stable income just like Mia’s mom worried he did not have).
Also a very cute thing in my opinion was that Mia helped organise Seb’s apartment after moving in together. I did not expect her to live between all of his boxes of Jazz obviously, but seeing it decorated with mellow flowers and no more boxes just felt very nice. Knowing that Mia gave him some kind of structure between his life of opening a bar for music that was deemed as dead by colleagues.
For the Epilogue : I was so happy that Mia achieved her dream and was able to now be the actress people wanted to pay the coffee for. Was just thrown a brick at as soon as her husband stepped into frame. Don’t get me wrong, deep down I knew that their I will always love you promise did not mean an immediate finding back to each other romantically especially after she went to Paris, but I had hopes and dreams, but there was still a bit of hope especially with how Seb had always supported Mia even if she left to live at her parents place.
I find that the ending with Seb playing “their” song on the piano after seeing her was a very good end for their relationship though, as much as it hurt. Ending what had been a very emotional relationship between two people trying to chase their dreams by listening to the song one last time felt like a pretty bow wrapping everything up. The nod by Seb to show that he was content with how it was now, even though he was alone again and she, just like at the start of their relationship, in a happy relationship with a man and now with a child at home.
So yes I cried and I deep down hate Mia’s husband even though she deserved to continue living her life after Seb
