Moonlight
If you did not cry as soon as Kevin put on the song that made him call Black then I believe that you watched the movie with your eyes closed. (Act 3 was my favourite so I’m mostly gonna talk about that one)
Overall just a movie that made me want to cry every two minutes.
Ngl, starting act 3 with Black being all grown up and seeming to have taken inspiration from Juan when it comes to his body and style made me want to cry just a little bit knowing that he was a sort of father figure back when Little was running away from his bullies.
And not enough people talk about Blacks conversation with his mom in my humble opinion. “You ain’t got to love me,but you gonna know that I love you.” Hit me so hard. Genuinely so sad to see parents who let their kids down when they needed them most now trying to have some sort of relationship. Her voice mails were wrecking me just as badly.
Also I just loved when he acted like a teenager making sure he looks good before walking into that restaurant I got to feel how much he actually missed him. “I haven’t really touched anyone since.” Hinting at the fact that even when he tried being with other people that he couldn’t because of what happened in high school omg give me a break.
Honestly my only criticism on this movie is how fast paced it was. I know that it must have been very complicated putting all of chirons stages of life in one movie and showing the most important parts but I still would have loved to see more, getting to know Chiron more. Cause the characters in the movie are right, that guy only nodds and never talks. Plus the ending was so rushed? I don’t know what I would have liked to see otherwise honestly but it was just so quiet after the crushing line of “you the only man that’s ever touched me”. And it felt almost awkward to me,though that is probably how Black felt after that confession and then having to stand in that small kitchen with the guy that not only jerked him off in high school but was also his first and only love, smiling and cooking water.
Super important movie, loved the music, will cry to it again another time.
