Hamnet
Any other year in Oscars history this would be my winner for best picture but PTA had something to say. That said it wins best costume design, production design, best actress and it has a real shot at best cinematography. All round its an amazing movie, with some genuinely mind blowing acting from Jessie Buckley and Jacobi Jupe. Infact the Jupe family as a whole did wonders here.
Jacobi and Noah Jupe both worked on this, and they both did amazing work.
When i say costume and production design deserve the Oscars i really mean it. This has some of the best costume design in any movie ever. The clothes feel old and dirty, like they really have been used for months in the country side of 1600s england. The sets feel lived in and old, and the kids rooms look like they actually have had kids in for months. It all is just so immersive.
The cinematography really is something, i really love the wide open shots we see through most of the movie, and the tight moving shots during an intense scene is also amazing. Yet it isnt a winner over train dreams in my opinion.
My mother grew up in Stratford-Apon-Avon, the same town as shakespear is from, she even went to the same school as he did. So she knows alot about his life. She called it her favorite movie of the decade and i sort of agree. Growing up with shakespear all around me in that region of England really taught me a bit about his life (unwillingly) and i do find it fascinating yet this still isnt even the best movie of the year for me, as it doesnt remain entirely true to the stories i have been told.
If this movie doesn’t win; Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Jessie Buckely for best actress, it will go down for the biggest robbery for me.
