Crossing
A film where every minute is used to paint a vivid portrait of its location, characters, and themes. Crossing is a movie that inspires conversation about trans women, family, purpose and in a way wanderlust.
I loved the characters arcs for all three of the main cast and was happy to see a movie that respects it’s trans characters while also being unafraid to acknowledge some of the harsher truths that trans women live with. That being said this movie is largely seen from the perspective of Lia who is not trans.
But I think that’s the point; Lia is a mirror that shines both on people who’ve grown to regret their treatment and disowning of queer relatives trying to rectify that even if it’s too late, and also reflects for queer people those family members that pushed us away. She is a strong woman living with deep regret and with nothing to lose, only a fire to find her niece Tekla remains.
Achi and Evrim the other two centre pieces in this story also have their own layered stories and purpose. It’s the dynamics of these intertwined lives that is so beautiful about Crossing. Not only that but it is stunning visually, the camera work and aesthetic choices were all really wonderful, and the score added an extra layer of emotion.
I could probably yap about this more and also watch this 100 times over but i’m gonna go to bed now! Anyway I loved this movie so much
