Cool Hand Lukeotto clark9.6· January 20, 2023FollowThis film feels like a call to action, which makes sense as it was released in the late 1960’s, back when revolution was in style. We sympathize with Luke and root for his success against his tyrannical overlords, but deep down we know he has no chance. Ultimately Luke succumbs to his fate, not with tears in his eyes like his oppressors would expect, but with a wry smile. The problem with revolutionaries is that death is a job requirement. Paul Newman is really good and the banjo scene almost got a tear.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the app
