8 Mile
Shit man this hits hard like so damn hard. Jimmy’s struggles and experiences are so authentic and feel genuine. I see Em perform in this movie and I think he could’ve had a decent shot at some sort of acting career cuz he’s honestly really great in this as is the whole supporting cast. No characters are outright bad and all serve their purposes. I just feel like how this movie tends to show Jimmy's struggles is really powerful. His relationships are not all super deep but the few that are really do land for me like with his sister, mom, Alex, and Future. The scenes where he shares with those characters is when he’s at his best. That and when he’s alone writing hearing snippets of the songs being crafted behind the iconic drum beats and back instrumentals. It’s also insanely funny. So many times where the movie seamlessly goes from a slow more emotional scene to then burning a house down for the principle of it and just cuz they wanted to watch a place burn. I can’t see this movie and not love it. There’s just something about seeing Em go through the struggles he’s always talked about in his music. I can’t imagine how different the movie would’ve been had it come out sometime now with all that’s happened since it came out 21 years ago.
