The music was really out of place about 90% of the time and those piano tracks were really lame but that honestly is my only gripe. From beginning to end I was enthralled with what we were going to learn about this disturbing marriage while it's dissected by this morally ambiguous actress who's motives are selfish from the gate. But it's how she evolves while slipping into this role as a troubled damaged woman. How the two treat Joe is really where it shines. I'm not gonna spin the same record but we all can agree Charles Melton was astonishing in this film. His subtle mannerisms, the lightness in his delivery, just everything he manages to pull from this performance is just unreal. Joe was taken advantage of but it's in the scenes of subtle realization where we see him gripe with how much of a life he's really lost. I think the breakdown he had with Charlie sealed it for me. Abuse that is masked like this is so horrible to watch unfold and be so normalized. The anxiety and just the aching stomach pain I got when hearing him try to justify his trauma while being verbally beaten into the ground by his abuser.
