“You know why this is my favorite tree? Because it tipped over, and it’s still growing.”
Wow. After seeing Anora and all of its praise I had to see what Sean Baker was known for prior and by god this movie fuckin shattered me. Incredibly raw and real to life experiences that feel eerily familiar to my personal life. The sets and camera work is honestly really fresh and down to earth which works so well since we're mostly following Moonee's point of view and speaking of. Moonee's performance was genuinely amazing. Such easy flow between scenes, lines, but most of all emotion. The other kids all did really well too but she stood out like the rainbow. I can't go another second without mentioning my goat Bobby. Even if he'd been played by a different actor would've still been my favorite character but Dafoe just adds so much heart into an integral part of the story. I can have my gripes with some decisions or character behaviors but honestly? I say it makes the experience that much better following this sweet and loving yet bitter and tragic few weeks play for these two. We can sit and judge decisions made by movie characters because at the end of the day that's all they are but seeing them make decisions I know are wrong but yet have seen people I love make the same ones.. It speaks to me I guess.
