Sentimental Value
so many parallels between the father and daughter, showing no empathy / not really being able to be emotionally intimate if its not on stage / directing the stage…
i hate how the father never apologized to her but the actress instead, in the end the daughter has to play his mother emotionally and literally so he can better process his trauma, yes he made her feel seen by writing this script but not once did he say sorry for causing her becoming the heartbreaking character he wrote. so she falls back into her fathers manipulative and dismissive ways because she thinks this is love and the love she deserves. i feel bad for both of them. he doesn‘t realize or just avoids the fact that he is responsible for what she went through but instead he responds by shaming her for being too angry and hurt about it all the time when at least she can call him out on it while he avoided her for what? 15 years?
idk i have lots of thoughts but pretty much: its sad, i cried a lot
