Andrei Rublev
A fucking phenomenal film, and that’s putting it lightly. It’s very rare for a film to mesmerise you from start to finish, but this film is one of those rare cases. Every single frame was so meticulously thought out and well made. This film was my introduction to Andrei Tarkovsky and his direction was fucking incredible, to say the least. The masterful storytelling, the stunning cinematography, and the unbelievable performances all made this an absolute masterpiece. The way Tarkovsky weaves together the different storylines and themes is nothing short of genius. The film's exploration of faith, humanity, and the human condition is so fucking brilliant and thought-provoking. And the visuals, my god, the visuals. The cinematography is just breathtaking and the performances across the board are outstanding. The lead actor's portrayal of the title character is mesmerising, capturing the inner turmoil and spiritual journey with such depth and the supporting cast is equally impressive. Those last twenty minutes of the film is one of the most hypnotic, awe-inspiring and confronting pieces of the cinema I have ever seen, the decaying paintings, the music, and the thought-provoking final shot are just unbelievable! Andre Rublev is a cinematic masterpiece, and I doubt I will ever see anything like it again. It's a film that stays with you long after the credits roll, leaving you in absolute awe. Tarkovsky is just masterful and I can’t wait to watch more of his work! I honestly struggled to write this review because it’s almost impossible to put into words what this film made me feel, I just know that it’s one of the greatest pieces of cinema I have ever seen!
