26, loved films all my life. Four favorites are my favorite first watches from the previous month. I don’t rate films I watch purely for pleasure anymore. [Oh, and here's a list compiling all of my important lists!](https://letterboxd.com/yotam42/list/the-list-of-all-lists/) [XO <3](https://youtu.be/8i4ySBlijHY?t=18)

A beast of a film. Deeply moving, inspiring, funny and heartbreaking. This is a remarkable feat which manages to represent a pure and immediate bond between two women, who quickly become close friends. Meanwhile, it also delves in serious social commentary both about healthcare and the state of the world. And if that weren’t enough, the characterization, writing and performances are outstanding. It manages to shift tones, languages, time and settings seamlessly. The long runtime is crucial to making all these things work, as the film is very dense but at the same time manages to not be overwhelming. It’s been a great privilege to watch this relatively early. I cannot recommend enough keeping a close eye on this film and seeing it whenever possible.

Emotionally effective and raw storytelling. What more does one need from an underdog film? But wait, there’s more! Not only was this based on the directors lived experience, not only were a plethora of non-actors cast (who did a wonderful job), but the political messaging is amazing!!! *Congo Boy* offers both positive representations of the refugee experience, but also brotherhood between Christians and Muslims. Look out for this one! A real crowd pleaser in the best way possible! It also has great music!

By the books, but a nice time nonetheless. What more can one ask for from a movie about gay truckers falling in love? The characters are fun and the filmmaking all around is fine, but the plot devolves into many cliches to its own detriment. Good pacing though.

Nah, this ain’t it. This isn’t just not a ghost story, but neither a good movie. Nearly two hours of bombastic monologues disguised as dialogue is just bad storytelling. It’s not that deep, not impactful, and none of the costumes or performances make up for lost time.
