i hate how much potential this had, the characters backstories were carefully crafted, the story made sense and had just the perfect amount of suspense as the show went on, but the script, the script felt as if it was written either by an ai or as if it was somebody’s first time attempting writing a script. it often felt frustratingly unnatural. characters would explain things that didn’t need explaining, conversations rarely sounded like how real people talk, and some emotional moments felt more like the writers telling me what to feel rather than letting the story speak for itself. there were also several plot developments that seemed designed purely to shock the audience rather than emerge naturally from the characters and their decisions. i had some trouble trying to put the story together the first few episodes and then you think that everything clears out and that the bad guys and the good guys are well established, but no, everything later gets revealed and its all quite shocking, in a sense where it was not expected at all. characters we pitied turn out psychopathic (Nancy was wild for writing such a book about a deceased son including those erotic scenes that she just imagined off of some photographs) and others you feel sorry for judging. i thought the ending was a bit rushed, especially considering how much time was spent building the mystery, but despite its flaws, the final revelations were enough to completely change how i viewed almost every character in the story.
