Trainspotting
Trainspotting. Cult, cult, cult.
A sensory experience that burns, burns inside: it tells us about the desire to live almost on the same thread (or needle) of the desire to self-destruct. A film that grows inside you and that does not lead only to an unheard of sadness, but also to a strong reasoning that implements our critical sense with a generational manifesto that seems so far from us when in reality it is a philosophy of life so close to us.
Danny Boyle deals with certain themes in a really strong way and confirms himself as one of the most interesting, brilliant and cult directors of the last 30 years with a film that demonstrates all his talent.
There is no real strong point, because Boyle gets it all right: from the dynamism of the direction to the choice of the cast, from the style used to narration and staging, all spectacular and all live up to one of the most significant and impressive works of the 90s as well as the last 30 years.
Like me, future generations will feel represented by Trainspotting. Not for drugs (which undoubtedly makes you disgust), but precisely for the difficulty of taking a choice in life and finding a way to stay in the world, a problem that already today afflicts all boys, girls, men and women deep down.
'Choose life; choose a job; choose a career; choose a family; choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disk players and electrical tin openers; Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance; choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments; choose a starter home; choose your friends; Choose leisurewear and matching luggage; Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics; choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday morning; choose sitting on the couch watching mind numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth; choose Rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in house amiserable nothing more than an embarassement to the selfish and messy Brats you created to replace yourself; choose your future; choose life. But why would I want to do such a thing? I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you have heroin? '
