Blade Runner
Blade Runner is basically a two-hour-long existential crisis wrapped in neon lights and synth music. It’s empathy propaganda at its finest—what makes us human? The Voight-Kampff test is basically a Buzzfeed quiz for robots, but instead of “What Kind of Bread Are You?” it’s “You’re watching a stage play. The guests are enjoying an appetizer of raw oysters. The entrée consists of boiled dog. What do you do?” Love that. Replicants feel fear, anger, all the fun emotions, but empathy? That takes time—kind of hard when you’ve got an expiration date. And watching this in the age of AI (hello, ChatGPT, my artificially intelligent confidant), it’s all disturbingly relevant. So yeah, now I’ll just sit here, stare at the ceiling, and overthink my own existence. 10/10, would spiral again.
