The Witch
This film feels like if someone had specifically curated a horror movie exactly to my liking.
From the use of atmospheric horror instead of jump scares, the absolutely chilling sound design, the slow burn and build up, to the religious symbolism and heavy use of metaphorical imagery this checks all of the boxes of the criteria for my own perfect horror movie.
I love the vibe and subgenre of folk horror as as a whole and Eggers delivers tenfold. For this to be this mans debut feature is absolutely astonishing; anything this man touches turns to gold.
This may be in contention as my favourite horror movie I’ve seen.
