Her
Her is a film that is a lot to unpack and a film that I think is just more relevant and has aged even better now than when it came out.
This film is even more relevant now with the rise of AI and people trying to build real relationships with them instead of with people just accelerating the loneliness epidemic. This is even more evident and really hits home the point of the film when at the end the AI (Samantha) goes away forever and then we see Phoenixs character come closer to an actual person and that’s the note it leaves you on.
All this being said at the core of the film is how AI can trick us into a real connection but the truth is that when all of that is peeled back we only have each other as people and that’s the arc of this film, having the illusion of a connection (the AI) and then that being broken when it disappears and our lead has the realization it was just a computer and no matter what it can’t recreate that human touch or emotion being there for them on a raw human level.
