This movie is the closest thing I’ll ever get to time travelling to my favorite era and I’m so grateful my first time experiencing it was in the cinema. I was completely mesmerised by the fact that you feel constantly besides Barry Lyndon, almost inside the frame with him, especially in scenes like the battles or the gambling sequences, where everything feels so immersive and alive. I couldn’t help but wish for a scene set at the French court in Versailles, I would have loved to see that through Kubrick’s vision. I’m ashamed to admit it but I was rooting for Barry Lyndon the whole time ( besides the start with his first love/cousin and getting in the way of her good marriage) and was so sad to see him ending up like this. Even tho I understood each character’s point of view and perspective i couldn’t help but kinda hate his step son, I was so satisfied when he confronted him, even if I fully recognize where his step son anger comes from. I also really loved Lady Lyndon’s character and wish we had a movie from her perspective. She has so few lines, yet that silence says so much about her place in Barry’s world. I was also addicted to her wardrobe and would like to steal all of it. Overall, I found the movie incredible, and I’d take any opportunity to experience it again on the big screen.

This movie is ✨✨✨✨ICONIC ✨✨✨✨

I am walking around like a crazy person singing Good Morning at 9pm

I realized through my stats that I had never watched a film from the 1910s, and I had to fix that immediately. This was my first 1910s film, and I’m glad it was a Lois Weber one, I definitely want to watch more of her films. I also never thought I’d cry at a silent movie until today. It was so sad, it broke my heart.
