1917
What a brilliant war film, 1917 feels real and not glorified. There are so many scenes in this film that I loved. First when Schofield and Blake are crawling through no mans land, though it is pretty harrowing its also quite powerful and real. Blakes death was so fucking sad and not what I expected. The two parts where Schofield is running through the burning remains of Ecoust are incredible and intense possibly my favourite scene. Him meeting Lauri is like a quiet break from the war, almost reminding the audience of how everyone is getting affected or that there is still some kindness left. I think my favourite scene though is seeing Schofield running along the top of the trench while hundreds of soldiers are streaming out, and you just know they are running into a trap. The moment with Blakes brother is really sad and then end when Schofield is looking at photos of his people back home is almost melancholy. The end is interesting though because while he is wishing he could go home we never actually find out if he does. Basically, the cinematography in this is brilliant, especially in the way the camera follows mostly Schofield round the entire time. There's no big wide shots or even really much above his head. Its all focused on the ground with the soldiers which I really love.
