Zodiac
I feel genuinely unsettled after watching this incredible film. I think this being a true story is the craziest thing, it all really happened, they don't truly know who it is and apparently this film is very accurate. First of all the way Fincher portrays 60s/70s California feels so authentic from the streets, cars, clothes or the massive tapes recording the call on the news. Not only does Fincher succeed on authenticity but also with tension. The way certain scenes feel is so real. Like when they talk to Arthur Leigh Allen at his work, you feel sure it is him especially when he admits about the bloody knives and when they question his watch. It almost felt like I was in that room with them! The scene in the basement is also super creepy and I was suddenly like, hang on, maybe it's this guy. Only for him to be practically forgotten. The scene that got me the most though has to be near the end. When Graysmith walks into that shop and sees Lee its like everything stops. Gyllenhaal's acting is beautiful to see his stare slowly become more and more disgusted. As he realises that he really is looking at who he believes is the Zodiac. This scene also sums up the frustration throughout the film as the police are played with and as no one matches with the handwriting, not even Lee. Seeing how Lee lived his entire life without being caught before dying really bothers me. The crazier thing though is that he was never confirmed so really there is a chance it was not him and was someone else. Who is possibly still alive right now! Also credit to the cinematography which really captured the tension, the investigation and frustration. Fincher's Zodiac is a really incredible film, so well made and well worth a watch if your interested in serial killers.
