The Invite
I haven’t laughed this hard in a movie in a very long time. My cheeks were genuinely hurting by the end and I was kind of stuck in that smiley-face position.
The cinema was pretty packed and it was just so cool to hear everybody laugh and howl for basically the first 90 minutes and to hear some of those good ol Schenkelklatscher. Urgh so good. That much shared laughter just hits different.
I’m a pretty big Nolton fan, but I have to say Seth Rogen was the star for me in this one. But then again, everyone gave stellar performances. I do have to add that Nolton’s role fits so perfectly. just seeing him yap about weird inspirational bs made me smile every time.
I was very hyped because I had only heard good things about this movie, and I was so, so, so glad it came in the sneak preview. Otherwise I would’ve had to wait two more weeks to watch it. Although, unfortunately, now I have to wait two more weeks to watch it again, which I 100% will do.
Olivia Wilde also directed the hell out of it. I love a good old artsy intro, which she definitely gave, and those creative shots especially in the beginning, which I have no idea what they mean and how they can be interpreted, but I still very much appreciate them.
And oh my god did I love the fast-paced dialogue. I generally love it in films when they have sequences of quick and witty tiki-taka back and forth, but this was basically a whole movie of that. I’m smiling right now while writing this just thinking about some of those moments.
Sharp dialogue, loved the score, and just the fucking absurdity of it all made it probably one of my favorite movies of the year.
Just one big chef’s kiss from me.
