Amélie
I expected this to be my favorite film yet, which is why I reckon I was disappointed by it; not that it wasn’t good, but I was expecting something more. That being said, Amélie is undoubtedly my favorite character from any of the films I’ve watched. I love how relatable she is, as well as her shy, weird nature. Audrey Tautou does an excellent job at playing Amélie; she’s also very cute, which adds an element of eye-candy-ness to the film. As far as why I was underwhelmed… the plot under-delivered for me. It was alright, but it didn’t strike me as something spectacular. Honestly, I found the first half of the film quite boring to sit through, though the second half had me more captivated. I can’t say I understood the entirety of the film, so I’ll have to re-watch it at some point. As far as the cinematography and aesthetics, I loved them. I enjoyed the film in a visual sense. That being said, though I liked the weirdness of the film, I felt that at times it was overplayed to the point of it becoming cliché/cringy. I also didn’t like the overuse of sexual imagery; I found it very unnecessary (I understand it was mostly used in a comedic sense, but even then I think the film would’ve been better without it). All in all, a good film!
