Daisies
It feels silly to say but I mostly really enjoyed watching this film. I don’t have a structured plan to go about the review so I’ll say whatever pops up in my mind. I really liked the Dadaist undertones, the visuals, and the “avant-gard-ness” of the film. Even though there were several mildly disgusting scenes throughout the film that I would argue took away from its aesthetics, the fact that the two Marie’s were very pretty women made those scenes less disgusting in a way. As “weird” as it is, I would go as far as to classify this as a feel good film. When it comes to the film’s message, I feel that it’s a mix between self identity, nihilism and the question of: can something that’s broken truly be fixed? About the plot… two sisters (?) that love to eat, in fact, they’re obsessed with eating, use old men for free lavish food and to toy around with them, they cut up fragments of magazines (another Dadaist undertone) and each other’s clothes, and go on search for more food (?)… Oh and I liked that scene where one of the Marie’s cuts the other Marie’s blouse/bra so as revenge, she “cuts” the air… but ended up cutting the other Marie’s arm… but not really…
