Frankenstein
I love this adaptation it gives the creature a powerful narrative voice, allowing us to truly see the world through its eyes. By humanising the monster, the story deepens the timeless tension between creator and creation, man and monster. This clear dichotomy is handled with remarkable nuance, revealing the fragility of both. Ultimately, it is through the creature’s act of forgiveness toward Victor that genuine humanity emerges. In that moment, the so-called monster transcends his maker, finding compassion and moral strength where Victor himself could not. I love the way that Elizabeth is used as well, her dual purpose is so significant for the comparison between what we desire and the roles that we are forced to conform to.
