On paper it makes sense to make a film based on a freely available character (public domain), especially one who is still somewhat familiar to the general public with some differences (this of course being a Blue Beetle film in all but name with the earliest incarnation of the character). The problem is that even if the idea is literally free the production is not, and it’s clear director Brett Kelly is not good at spending the costs needed to make something like a half-decent superhero film. Echoey rooms, bad CGI backdrops, stock footage and images and PNG moons do nothing to make this anywhere near a good movie despite a plot that makes some semblance of sense.
The issue with that is also that these actors have nowhere near the ability to do such a film. It’s embarrassing. I almost want to call it the *Room* of superhero films, but the issue with that is *The Room* is not only objectively a movie with production standards but also actually funny from how bad it is. Should be a motivator for someone to make a superhero film based on some public domain name, just to say they did it better.
