Probably the most classic example of shoving a well-known singer who can’t act into a random comedy movie — this time, the unfortunate victim is the remarkable Huey Lewis, the man who made the Back to the Future soundtrack iconic. Here, however, he simply can’t act.
The casting overall is fine, but the chemistry between characters is completely off. It could have been a fun road-trip comedy, but instead it leaves you wanting more, with an ending that feels like you’re missing something. Don’t get me wrong — it’s still fun in moments. The karaoke scenes are great (because, obviously, Huey can sing), and Maria Bello is consistently solid, as she always is — I’ve loved her since Grown Ups 2.
All in all, it’s a decent watch for a lazy Saturday morning — just don’t expect much beyond some catchy tunes and light entertainment.
