I want to accept that this is one of Bruce Li’s favorite films he’s made, but I don’t get why he thinks this. This has no clue on whether it wants to be a drama about Bruceploitation in a way, or just a Bruceploitation flick. The drama is dull, and while the action sequences are good (and carrying a heavy load for this score) neither parts of what make up this film really help you discern what exactly the plot is beyond “Bruce Li is hired to be the new star for an advertising agency looking to crush a rival.” As a meta commentary on Bruceploitation itself, it has potential but doesn’t work. Really a shame given its repudiation as one of the “better” Bruceploitation pictures.
