This fifteen-minute short film can be watched here: Play
Samuel Beckett was an Irish writer most famous for the play Waiting for Godot though he wrote many other works. This short film is an adaptation of one of his writings. The dialogue is rich and layered and lightning fast. The overall piece is strange but spellbinding. There is a lot verbally happening.
A few thoughts:
I love Alan Rickman and I would listen to him read an instruction manual for building a birdhouse. His voice is so rich.
If this is what life after death is like; frightening.
I was slightly reminded of the Haunted Mansion ride as Disney World.
Not sure if this is cheating...but about 3 minutes in, I used the setting in YouTube video to watch it at .75 speed. I tried subtitles first, but they moved too fast.
Perhaps a better idea would be to pre-read the actual play. Here it is, if you want to go that route: Play by Samuel Beckett
This would be a great video to engage 11th or 12th grade students after reading the play. It DOES bring it to life wonderfully, which is the intended purpose.
