*“We are human, too. Because we have something we dearly wish to protect.”*
Now this is a much better introduction to the *Cyborg 009 *characters than Kenji Kamiyama’s movie. It’s pretty fun, nothing all that special with it becoming fairly tropey near the end but it’s entertaining.
My main complaint is that it’s very very heavy on the *Cyborg 009 *story with the *Devilman *story being nearly nonexistent during much of the second and third episodes. He really just turns up to fight and doesn’t get much else to do. Sorta besides the point but I’d have enjoyed an adaptation of the *Devilman *story in this style over what we got with *Crybaby*. Both on Netflix and on the Discotek blu-ray release, we get a 3 episode presentation but I think this wouldn’t have felt so dragged out during the middle of episode 2 and some of the beginning of episode 3 if it was just a 90 minute movie.
I had fun with it and now I’m a lot more interested in checking out more of *Cyborg 009* but yeah, it sucks that something with the title *Cyborg 009 vs Devilman* has a huge lack of Devilman in it.
*Also Ryo’s design isn’t twink enough.*
