once again, i can't even explain how much i wanted to give Jongwoo a hug.. almost as much as i wanted to see Moonjo and Jongwoo kiss.
the first time i watched this kdrama i thought i was a little weird for feeling such chemistry in a psychological crime thriller, but then i joined the fandom and i realised we're all just mentally ill.
the cinematography and the lights (especially the shots on the roof of Eden goshiwon) were so professional and on point, and there are so many smooth and perfect transitions from one scene to another that i didn’t notice the first time around. i hope other people will notice them thanks to my review.
also i have a theory i'd like to share:
in episode 7 we see Seokyoon, freshly new into the goshiwon, that asks Jongwoo the charger for his phone even tho in the next scene we see (like, the shot really wants us to see) that Seokyoon is already using his charger and so it isn't broken.
everyone was suspicious and (ig) thought that he might be dangerous, but then we discover that he was just another victim: a normal 25 years old. i'm starting to guess that the director seriously wanted this to be a bromance. both Moonjo and Seokyoon, for different purposes, wanted to become close to Jongwoo (also them both were kinda reacting weird at Jongwoo stating that he in fact has a girlfriend). they were both into Jongwoo.
i will never stop talking about how perfectly portrayed was the craziness of Jongwoo, he was finding his "true nature" and slowly going insane. his memories were starting to change, mixing his military's memories with what he was experiencing at the goshiwon, he was hallucinating.. and us with him.
i love how the last episode plays with the mind of the viewer (just like most of the series anyways), the ending didn't fail to impress me again (and making me reading theories on reddit for days and days): sitting together on a bench, Jongwoo asks Junghwa (the police officer) her thoughts regarding what's good and what's bad. i think the argument "how far can self-defense go? when does it become something dangerous? when is it a serious crime and so the person that commited it should be punished for?" is very interesting. the ending makes you guess that Jongwoo will not go to prison, so.. will he go on and kill more people? to answer this, as Moonjo said, they will be together forever. (and i agree with the theory in which Moonjo is alive)
anyways, i like to think that the whole stressing over everyone and everything could be just figment of his imagination. was it his mind creating problems and making him put up with the bad and annoying behaviours of the people around him? maybe because he was mentally unstable already? seems like it, seems like Moonjo knew who Jongwoo was from the very start.
or maybe hell is other people.
*! fun fact* i just found out: if you read first syllable of each episode's title in korean '타인은 정말로 지옥인가' it means 'Are others really hell?'
this will never not be my favourite kdrama of all time and Jongwoo will never not be the most relatable character known to mankind.
the casting is perfect. **no one can Moonjo like Dongwook, no one can Jongwoo like Siwan.**
