While I appreciate the small change to a tired formula in making this a "Live" special that goes wrong, it's not unique in any other sense, unless you count how uniquely bad the ghosts are. I've seen tons of bad horror movies that were made for five bucks and squirted onto a DVD that 98% of people will never even be in the same room as until they end up at the Dollar Tree at the same time, and I have never seen ghosts as bad as in this film. One seriously looks like clip art and I had to stop the movie so I could calm down and stop laughing. The ghost effects were hilariously bad, but other than the unintentional humor from those scenes, all I got was bored. The idea is that this is a straight rip of a live television special (like Ghost Adventures does every Halloween) including commercials (which are boring and not creative). We start with the history of the fictional theater they are going to do their investigation in, which feel pretty real, but is ultimately uninteresting. By the time we get to the ghost hunt, my expectations were super low. It begins like every real live investigation, where absolutely nothing happens and we basically just watch them go room to room doing nothing. When stuff actually happens, it's hard to imagine anyone being frightened when the "scary" scene is undercut by the awful effects. Watching some of the behind the scenes, they put a surprising amount of time into making a real, active theater into their theater, but if they put half as much effort into the film, it would have been four times better. The acting is terrible from everyone and the story makes very little sense. It's not the worst horror movie I've seem, but it easily is the worst looking.
