If I didn't watch this, then "where is my home?" would not be a thing. This short lyrical film gave me the confidence and unbelievable inspiration to actually figure out the types of films that I want to make. I thank Asiana for making something so unbelievably heart wrenching and relatable as an Asian American. All of the things that were presented in this film were exactly what I had to go thru growing up in Albuquerque. I have never cried so much at any film in my entire life than as I did in this short 6 minute piece.
Going to Cherry Reel 2024 was the single most important thing that I did as a filmmaker, because it exposed me to unbelievable talant and support. Before I was very insecure in my work and the worst perfectionist imaginable. I didn't want to follow thru on creative projects because I had no idea what I wanted to make. This lack of creativity drove me away from working on my own personal projects instead of just making something to make something.
This is a point I am going to look back on as a filmmaker to where it truly started for me. I am so grateful that I was able to experience this with my fellow UNM film makers and soon to be graduates.
**Once I become the greatest Japanese American filmmaker of all time, this is the point in time that I am going to mention time and time again as the point where my film career truly started.**
